They =20 are particularly (yet not exclusively) intended for young scientists =20 (especially PhD students). STSMs may also be used to reimburse =20 students attending a training school organized by the Action. Topics =B6 COST-IC0601 Action on Sonic Interaction Design is organized into four =20= Working Groups (WG). Emphasis is on activities that will contribute =20 to the research on one of the topics of the 4 Action's WGs. The =20 applicants should show clearly in their applications how the planned =20 activities and the selection of host-institution will contribute to =20 this aim. WG1 'Perceptual, cognitive, and emotional study of sonic =20 interactions' promotes STSMs focusing on basic research questions =20 addressed in perceptual, cognitive, and emotional studies of sonic =20 interactions. Research studies should be therefore aimed to the =20 understanding of human sound reception in interactive contexts. The =20 use of new experimental paradigms such as neurosciences, ergonomical =20 and psycholinguistic studies are welcome. WG2 'Product sound design' supports STSMs involving the design and =20 evaluation of interactive products with a salient sonic behavior. The =20= results of such STSMs should involve methods stressing emotional, =20 perceptual and aesthetical qualities of sounding objects, and help =20 designers in introducing sonic properties in their process. WG3 'Interactive Art and Music' would like to encourage STSMs that =20 explore the artistic, creative and critical potential of sound. We =20 welcome artist-researchers from a variety of backgrounds such as art, =20= music, design, architecture, sonic and performing arts as well as =20 interdisciplinary approaches. The results of STSMs could contribute =20 to understanding the role of sound in interactive art and music, =20 suggest creative ways of using sound in interactive objects, =20 environments or in the mobile context; other results might contribute =20= to explaining the cultural and social context of sound. WG4 'Sonification' supports STSMs that contribute to a better =20 understanding, design and use of sonifications in interaction. This =20 encompasses among others novel applications for sonification, the =20 development of sonification techniques, their evaluation as well as =20 research on theory and guidelines. The results of such STSMs would =20 suggest novel ways to create or use informative sounds that support =20 the interaction, or deliver an increased insight into involved data =20 or information. The Applicant =B6 The selection of the applicant is the responsibility of the =20 Management Committee (MC) of the Action. The Applicant should visit =20 an institution of a COST Member State having signed the Memorandum of =20= Understanding of the Action concerned. This institution should be =20 actively participating in the COST Action. For the period of the STSM =20= neither the Management Committee of the COST Action nor the COST =20 Office may be considered as the employer and grantees must make their =20= own arrangements for all health, social, personal security and =20 pension matters. The home and the host institution should be in a =20 COST Member State having signed the MoU and participating in the COST =20= Action. In exceptional cases a STSM may be approved from a home =20 institution in a COST signatory country to a host Institution in a =20 non-COST country but not the other way round. The Applicant is =20 responsible for obtaining the agreement of the host institution, =20 before submitting his application. Duration =B6 Short-Term Scientific Missions, minimum one week (5 working days), =20 maximum 3 months, shall be made within the time frame of the =20 operation identified in the proposal and within the period of the =20 Action. Finance =B6 The financial support is a contribution to the costs of a STSM and =20 may not necessarily cover all the costs in each case. The grant =20 should normally cover only travel and subsistence. The financial =20 contribution for a STSM will be a fixed grant based on the =20 Applicant's budget request and the evaluation of the application by =20 the STSM assessment committee. An amount of 60 to 90 eur for the =20 daily allowance in particular for longer stays and 300 eur for the =20 travel is recommended. The total of a STSM shall normally not exceed =20 2500 eur. Any exception needs special justification.
