(Apologies for any cross-posting) New PhD Program in Music Technology at NYU: The Music Technology Program at New York University (NYU) is pleased to announce the opening of its new Ph.D. program in Music Technology, to start in the Fall of 2008. The doctoral program and its curriculum are the results of collaboration between NYU's Departments of Music and Performing Arts Professions in the Steinhardt School, and Computer Science and Mathematics in the Courant Institute. Our research focuses on five main aspects: Music Information Retrieval, Spatial Audio, Music and Emotions, Interactive Music Systems, and Computer-based Music Visualization and Analysis. We are open to research ideas concerning the relation between technology and the creation, recording, processing, analysis, performance and dissemination of music as well. Information for Applicants: We are currently receiving applications. The application deadline for Fall 2008 admission is December 15th, 2007. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a record of excellence in academic performance and a strong commitment to their particular field of study. They are expected to be proficient in at least one, but preferably more, of the following areas of knowledge: music technology, music performance, musicology, music theory, cognition, physics, mathematics, computer science, computer programming, electronics and signal processing; and are required to have a relevant master's degree completed with a high grade point average (or equivalent for non-US students). A small number of doctoral fellowships are also on offer, with the exact number depending on the quality of applications. Doctoral fellowships are for 3 years and include full tuition remission plus fees, a yearly stipend of US $21,000, and health benefits.
