The Scottish Section (based in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary) has recently purchased a state-of-the-art motion-tracking system. We have a fellowship vacancy, offering a 3 year planned period of training and development, to use this equipment to study how normal and hearing-impaired listeners move their heads in response to sounds and how they orientate themselves to optimise listening. IHR offers a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment in which to develop new skills and expertise in the field. The Scottish Section has excellent experimental facilities and an influential track-record in the sciences of auditory impairment, disability, and handicap, as well as in psychoacoustical experimentation and computational modelling. Applicants should possess or be nearing completion of a PhD in auditory science, cognitive psychology, or a related field. We particularly welcome applications from those who have recently completed their PhD training, or wish to move into this exciting research field from a related discipline. Experience in hearing or motion studies is desired and a sound knowledge of cognition, perception, experimental design & analysis, and computation (especially Matlab) would be helpful. This is an outstanding opportunity for a scientist to work on an important new area of auditory science and to develop skills in and an understanding of hearing impairment. The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years and will be to a starting salary in the range £24,993 - £26,555 (pay award pending).
