This is from the back side of the string (between the slide and nut. Also, exactly what you get will depend upon whether you have a fretted slide, the type and diameter of strings, the material the sound pan is made of, the wood of the guitar, etc. Remember that the material which the slide is made of also makes a difference along with its diameter and whether it is hollow. You also need to look at the thickness of the walls of a hollow slide as well as whether one end is closed. Using a finger to obtain a harmonic at fret 4, 5, 7, 9, or 12, (etc up the neck) will differ from the slinde because the finger is softer and of a differnent material and both compresses and expands outward on the string. The slide should be rigid so provide no give on the string and no spread. The result of using a slide is not actually what you get with a finger.
