Dear List, I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience working with the Advanced Version of PEAQ (BS.1387). In particular I am keen to view the interpretation by interested parties of MOV 5 (Average Linear Distance - AvgLinDist). According to the standard: "The Model Output Variable AvgLinDistA measures the loudness of the signal components lost during the spectral adaptation of the Signal Under Test and the Reference Signal. It uses the spectrally adapted excitation of the Reference Signal as the reference and the unadapted excitation of the reference as the test signal. This MOV is calculated from the filter bank-based ear model. See § 5.2.1 for temporal averaging and Table 11 for constants." My own interpretation is on a par with Professor Kabal's interpretation (who attempted an implementation of the Basic Version and documented his interpretations of the Advanced Version). I have implemented a version based on the information (which is quite sketchy in places) given in the standard. Without MOV 5 (AvLinDist) the algorithm produces DI values which are close to conformance values. However, when I include the MOV 5 values it puts the DI way off. Obviously I am concluding that my (and Kabal's) interpretation of this MOV is inaccurate although from the standard I cannot. Has anyone else tried to do an implementation of this and what was your interpretation for this MOV? Any information would be appreciated. Also, it is my understanding that a number of people have tried to produce conforming models of both the Basic and Advanced Versions of PEAQ but all have failed to do so.
