Career Development Fellowship (REF: IHRCS02) Neural mechanisms of auditory perception and attention IHR conducts fundamental and clinical research into hearing and hearing disorders. Research programmes include neurophysiology, psychoacoustics, functional neuroimaging, event related potentials, and applied and clinical applications. Recent developments in sensory neuroscience have provided direct evidence of how the central nervous system participates in conscious perception. Cutting edge technology allows scientists to record behavioural decisions and the activity of many neurons simultaneously in a freely moving, alert animal. This effectively integrates neuroscience, psychophysics and cognition within a single experimental approach. We have a postdoctoral fellowship vacancy offering a 3 year planned period of training and development utilising this technology to examine directly neural responses to sound and their relationship to auditory perception while actively listening to sounds. It will be used to study the neural mechanisms of auditory detection, discrimination, and attention. IHR boasts world-leading experts in auditory cognition, speech and hearing science, binaural psychoacoustics, audio-visual speech perception, auditory perceptual learning, auditory neurophysiology and cortical plasticity. Our wide range of expertise provides a highly stimulating and collaborative working environment. As an IHR scientist, you will also have access to excellent in-house technical and computer support. Applicants should possess a PhD in one of the following disciplines : any aspect of auditory science; neuroscience; visual science. We particularly welcome applications from those who have recently completed their PhD training, or wishing to move into this exciting research field from any quantitative discipline. As a successful applicant, you will be given every opportunity to establish your reputation as a leader in this field. The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years and will be to a starting salary in the range £24,993 to £26,555.
