Best wishes, Mark. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Centre for Digital Music 2 x Post-Doctoral Research Assistants/Fellows for EPSRC OMRAS2 project A Distributed Research Environment for Music Informatics and Computational Musicology Ref: 06404/AB The Centre for Digital Music in the Department of Electronic Engineering comprises about 30 researchers, all studying the science and technology of music. With a current grant portfolio in excess of £3M, and a world-wide reputation for excellence, the Centre is at the forefront of research in the technology of music. The 3 year EPSRC project OMRAS2: A Distributed Research Environment for Music Informatics and Computational Musicology is a collaboration between the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary University of London and the Department of Computing at Goldsmiths' College, University of London, and involves a further 4 academic institutions in the UK as partners. Altogether the project will employ 12 researchers (post-docs and PhDs). Queen Mary is seeking 2 researchers at present. OMRAS2 builds upon the success of the earlier OMRAS project by integrating music analysis tools to provide a web-based research workbench for Music Informatics (MI) specialists, Music Information Retrieval (MIR) researchers and Computational Musicologists. The project will undertake research in three often disparate areas: systems architecture for musical content informatics; advanced component research for MI and MIR, and Computational Musicology. This adventurous combination of research dimensions has not been tackled before, and promises to revolutionise music research in the UK and beyond. Crucially the project makes use of Semantic Web (or Web 2.0) technology as well as Web Services to provide a research environment that is potentially globally distributed. Candidates for the post will be expected to have experience in various aspects of DSP and Computer Science for Music, Audio and Music Information Retrieval. You will need to be a proven researcher and able to write computer code. Salary will be up to £28,208 per annum inclusive on the scale for Research Scale, grade RES4 spinal point 29.
