Jont, good to hear you're still participating in this field; I'm getting back into it myself. Xinhui, the other thing to keep in mind is that the acoustic theory of speech production is just an approximation to what goes on in the vocal tract, which actually appears to involve seriously nonlinear jet and vortex behavior where air comes through the vocal folds. These effects may likely be a bigger perturbation to the model than any bending is. The plain-wave model gets you the right approximate resonant frequencies, but don't expect a lot more. Dick
