It is a fully-funded federal government (civil service) position within the Research Section of the AASC. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. The Research Section consists of 10-12 staff members. Six of the positions are permanently funded by the Medical Center, including the Research Audiologist position. The remaining positions within the Section are postdoctoral fellows and other support personnel salaried by competitive external funding. The primary responsibility of the position is to carry on an active program of clinical and/or basic research in hearing or balance. Specifically, this person will be expected to plan and implement experiments, seek extramural funding, mentor doctoral and post-doctoral trainees, and report research findings. There are no teaching or administrative responsibilities associated with this position. We will consider persons with a research interest in any area of hearing or balance, as long as their work is relevant to our clinical research mission. The salary is competitive, benefits are excellent and the work environment is exceptional. Candidates for the position must have completed a doctoral degree in audiology, hearing science, or a related field. Persons with post-doctoral research training and/or a few years of post-doctoral research experience will be regarded as more highly qualified. A publication record indicative of research productivity and a record of attracting extramural funding would be particularly attractive. Walter Reed Army Medical Center is the flagship of the US Army health care system, and is located in a residential area of northwest Washington DC, adjacent to Rock Creek Park, near the Maryland suburbs. For further information, or to discuss this position, please contact the current Director of Research, Dr. Brian E. Walden, at (202)782-8601, email: Brian.Walden@xxxxxxxx -- Ken W.
