Subject: Re: question about overtones From: Kristoffer Jensen <krist(at)CS.AAUE.DK> Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2005 18:19:32 +0100Tom. If you set the amplitudes a(k)=(B/(B-1))^(-k), where k is the overtone index, then the sound have a spectral centroid of B, which is highly correlated to the perception of brightness. In addition, I have found that many musical instruments has a slope approximately exponential. For typical values of B, you can have a look in my PhD (http://cs.aue.aau.dk/~krist/TMoMS.pdf), in Chapter 9, although you have to divide with the fundamental, or it can be found from the real amplitudes of a sound; B=sum(k*a(k))/sum(k). Thus you have a sound with relations to the perception, to the physics of the instrument and to the signal of the sound. best Kristoffer On Nov 17, 2005, at 1:58 AM, Tom Lee wrote: > Dear list, > > Does anyone have information about the amplitude > relation between a tone and its overtones?
