Subject: a different pitch in the right ear than in the left ear From: chen-gia tsai <tsai.cc(at)LYCOS.COM> Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2005 21:58:45 -0500Dear List, I am interested in composer's illness. Due to otosyphilis, Bedřich Smetana discovered that the tones of the higher octave had a different pitch in his right ear than in the left ear. (Neumayr 1997:167) Does this suggest that pitch is extracted at the level of the cochlear nucleus? I wonder if this effect can be related to the pitch shift effect caused by carbamazepine.
