I guess the answers to your questions are all there. (And if I remember correctly, there is a lot of accross-frequency integration, just because of the problem mentioned by Jan Schnupp of the missing "line up": that's a perfect cue to detect the first wavefront, the only one that is lined up, and the only one that gives information on the stereo location not tampered with by echos... but then it is not my field of research so my memory might not serve me right...)
