The conference will be held in the Hongo campus of the University of Tokyo, which is the main campus of the university located in the center of Tokyo City. The conference provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of current scientific research on the larynx and voice. The emphasis of this conference will be on basic and applied research rather than clinical treatment studies. We encourage investigators working in the following areas to attend the conference: o Acoustics, o Aerodynamics o Anatomy o Bio-acoustics o Biomechanics o Modeling o Molecular & Cellular Biology o Neurophysiology o Physics o Physiology In this conference, we especially encourage studies related to the "Variations across Cultures and Species" as indicated by the subtitle of the conference to promote a wide spectrum research on cultural variants of vocal behavior and types of animal vocalization. With this initial Call For Abstracts, we are asking interested participants to submit a 500 to 1000 word summary, plus figures or tables, in English to icvpb2006(at)iuhw.ac.jp. The abstract will then be forwarded to a member of the organizing committee for review. Publication of papers based on talks given at the Conference is optional but encouraged. For those participants who wish to publish their papers, the Committee will organize papers topically, and work with editors of journals, such as the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, for publication in a single issue.
