Nevertheless, the connection between neuronal changes and functional deficits (such as speech processing or memory deficits in Alzheimer Disease) remains largely unknown. As of yet unsolved is the question to what extent the different functional deficits are related to each other. Concerning the connection between biological changes (e.g. atrophies) and functional deficits, it has been widely implied that, for instance, problems in naming objects may stem from an atrophy of relevant cerebral areas or limited access to these areas resulting from atrophy. However, such views improperly simplify and reduce the complex connection between the biological bases and functional performances of the brain. The Neurolinguistic Laboratory and the Neuropsychology Lab (Department of Psychology) of the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg i.Br. will be hosting the international conference. "Cortical Dementias Cognitive Deficits in Alzheimer's Disease" on Friday, 24. 06., and Saturday, 25. 06. 2005. Lectures of internationally renowned speakers are planned as well as short oral presentations and posters. One part of the conference will be a round table discussion about the evaluation of therapy, with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.
