Can anyone hazard a guess at whether there are any captive animals that are not daily immersed in music, because the people round about listen to music? Before anyone jumps to conclusions about this stuff, I would have thought it important to establish whether music is as encultured in these animals as it is in humans. One way of looking at sensory and perceptual systems is that they are just pattern detectors. One way of looking at music is that it is just (playful) pattern.
