The supplement will be £4K in year 1. The School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds invites applications for the post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Audiology. The post holder will contribute to teaching and research in Audiology within the School. The person appointed will have experience in higher education and will wish to further develop a research career. For an academic appointment you will be research active with a record of research and publication and will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research profile of the School. Teaching duties will involve teaching and supervision of full and part time undergraduate students. A number of further appointments are expected in this area. Applications are invited from Audiologists or Hearing Scientists. Any discipline within Audiology or Hearing Science will be considered; a Clinical Scientist in Audiology with a Professional/Clinical qualification would be welcomed. The School currently offers a post qualifying part-time BHSc in Audiology Studies degree as a continuing professional development top up for qualified audiologists and a new full-time 4 year undergraduate BSc (Hons) in Audiology pre registration program which will commence in September 2004. The full-time degree is one of eight such programs within the UK and introduces a new and innovative stream of study to the University that will further broaden the School's teaching and research profile in a professional area that is expanding at a phenomenal national rate. New facilities and infra-structures are in place to support the theoretical and clinical skills training that will underpin delivery of the full-time Audiology program. There is an emphasis on university based theoretical and practical skills training supported by integrated hospital based clinical practice training. Facilities include our own in-house mini Audiology clinic situated in a large and state of the art clinical skills laboratory and two purposes built soundproofed rooms. There are currently two academic members of staff and we expect to make further appointments to the School including a Professor in Audiology. We are continuing to develop a team of teaching staff, including Audiologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf and ENT medical staff. Current audiological research interests within the School include; Psychoacoustics, children's speech, literacy and hearing disorders; auditory rehabilitation and amplification; auditory attention and road safety and children's central auditory processing deficits. The School is keen to develop its research portfolio for the future and interests and collaborations in other research areas of Audiology will be very much welcomed. There are opportunities for collaborative research both within the Faculty, throughout the University and Internationally. There are a variety of established research institutes in the physical, biological and behavioural sciences across the University that have potential for collaborative research. The usual opportunities for postgraduate research supervision are available and the School is keen to attract PhD and research Masters Students in Audiology. There are a number of competitive studentships available throughout the School and the University that add to the usual external funding sources for studentships. Future developments in Audiology within the School may include the development of taught masters and diploma courses and modules.
