I highly recommend the use of SFS (http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/resource/sfs/) which, in my opinion, makes beautiful spectrograms on its default settings (use the wide-band analysis). Other things to remember for pretty pictures: 1) you want ultra-clean recordings, prefereably made in an anechoic chamber. Poor microphones and poor recording conditions will do you no favours. 2) male speech tends to look better than female speech 3) some speakers look (and of course sound!) better than others. Pawel Kusmierek asked about spectrograms: /*------------------------------------------------------*/ Stuart Rosen, PhD Professor of Speech and Hearing Science Dept of Phonetics & Linguistics University College London 4 Stephenson Way London NW1 2HE England Tel: (+ 44 [0]20) 7679 7404 Admin: (+ 44 [0]20) 7679 7401 Fax: (+ 44 [0]20) 7383 0752 Email: stuart(at)phon.ucl.ac.uk Home page: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/stuart/home.htm /*------------------------------------------------------*/
