Technical Officer in Psychoacoustics (Part time) SCHOOL OF MUSIC & EDUCATION The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. REF. 2882NET FIXED TERM: Salary Level 7: A$53K - A$57K per year (pro rata) (plus up to 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading). The Chief Investigator of an ARC Discovery Project is seeking the assistance of an enthusiastic technical officer to support his research activities in the production of a range of psychoacoustic analytic tools (both signal processing and subjective measurement) using Matlab (or similar); developing up-to-date, easily accessed research databases and websites; organising and running experiments with human participants; engineering and editing sound recordings; providing assistance with data analysis; and performing other duties related to the project. Essential criteria: a degree in computer science or similar; excellent knowledge of Matlab (or equivalent); ability to write external functions and commands related to human computer interfacing and sound file analysis (eg. for controlling audio CDs, performing spectral analysis, beat tracking and so forth); proven ability to meticulously document software; proven ability to work well as part of a team, as well as to perform tasks independently; familiarity with acoustics and psychoacoustics, as well as a strong interest in the field; willingness to work on a Mac OS X platform; ability to write, maintain and upload web pages according to University and Faculty guidelines; knowledge of database and web administration and maintenance; a knowledge of EEO/AA principles; knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training. Desirable criteria: experience in making studio sound recordings; experience in making DVDs; extensive experience in the area of acoustics and psychoacoustics. This is a fixed term position for 12 months working 2 days a week part time, with the possibility of renewal.
