The contact there is Professor Sharman Pretty (spretty(at)greenway.usyd.edu.au) -- POSITION: Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Australian Centre for Applied Research in Music Performance Sydney Conservatorium of Music TYPE: Academic APPOINTMENT: Continuing AVAILABILITY: Internal & External REF NO: B21/003793 An opportunity exists for an outstanding researcher to play a key role in the development of applied research within the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The Australian Centre for Applied Research in Music Performance (ACARMP) is a recent initiative of the Conservatorium, with the potential to become a major national and international focal point for research and innovation in a diversity of areas supporting the pursuit of excellence in music performance. Working in close collaboration with the Research Director, the Coordinator will foster interdisciplinary applied research within the Centre, building links between research in music performance and research in such areas as acoustics, physiology, psychology, music therapy, and music perception and cognition. Essential to the position are a PhD in an area relevant to applied music research, or equivalent, evidence of capacity to attract competitive research funding, a strong publications record, experience in post-graduate supervision and tertiary administrative experience, preferably in a leadership role. For appointment at level C, it is desirable that applicants postgraduate supervision experience be extensive and that they have a track record in attracting national competitive grants. Also desirable for appointment at level C is a demonstrated ability to provide faculty-wide leadership in research and a developing national and international profile as evidenced by membership of appropriate boards and committees, and invitations to conferences and other events. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to applied research in music and will demonstrate the potential to provide collegial, faculty-wide leadership in research. While the substantive focus of the role will be the development of applied research, research supervision and a continuing personal contribution to the research output of ACARMP, some undergraduate and post-graduate teaching will be required. The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and/or confirmation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Appointment to this position is subject to the provisions of the NSW Child protection legislation. Relevant criminal history, apprehended violence orders and prior employment checks, including relevant disciplinary proceedings, will be conducted on the preferred applicant.
