Postdoctoral position at University of Maryland College Park Cognitive Neuroscience of Language Laboratory, MEG Lab A post-doc position is available immediately to work on the neural basis of speech perception and word recognition using MEG, in the context of an NIH-funded project on cortical mechanisms in speech perception. The Cognitive Neuroscience of Language Lab (www.ling.umd.edu/cnl) is a highly interdisciplinary environment in which research ranges from neural encoding in auditory cortex to lexical semantics and sentence processing. In addition to the whole-head MEG facility, the lab has a high-density EEG setup, a head-mounted eye-tracker, and numerous behavioral research facilities. For the project, background in MEG or EEG research would be helpful but is not required. We are looking for someone who is interested in learning/using MEG to study cortical mechanisms in speech/hearing/lexical access but who is also interested in developing his or her own research program. Independence and initiative are therefore essential. Signal processing skills and a Matlab-o-centric lifestyle are necessary, as are an appreciation of interdisciplinary work and a sense of humor. A PhD in speech science, neuroscience, physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, or biomedical imaging would be a good background. The position is open immediately and has secure and competitive funding for up to three years.
