You (collectively) are my last resort!

Does anyone know how to set the volume controls on a standard Windows sound
card through Matlab? I realise that it is fairly straightforward to control
a specific piece of hardware through purpose-written C code through a MEX
file, but I want something a lot more general.

Thanks for any pointers.
