apart from the direct-to-reverb ratio with respect to amplitudes, there's the question of signal path length. For a speakerphone, there is likely to be more similarity between the time of arrival of the direct, and that of the early reflections, and the reverberation, than for a close mic. I would say the same thing for timbral quality /air absorption of Hf..? I'm sorry, isn't there a really obvious reference (I just can't remember) to do with suppression of echoes in a learned acoustic? (which I always assumed was a binaural effect.)
