Dear list, I was asked who was Zarlino: In my opinion not just a composer but highly important as founder of theoretical basics of music. His famous papers were: Institutioni harmonice 1558, Dimonstrationi harmonice 1571,and Sopplimenti musicali 1588. His teacher was Adrian Willaert. Both conducted the orchestra of St. Marcus in Venice. Eckard Blumschein
