Dear Members of the Auditory List, Does anyone know any research showing that (or/and explaining why) an inter-onset interval between a soft event and a loud one (IOIa) is perceived as being longer than: 1. an inter-onset interval of the same physical duration between a loud event and a soft one (IOIb) 2. an inter-onset interval of the same physical duration between two loud events? (IOIc) I observed this in an experiment where participants were asked to perceptually adjust inter-onset intervals, according to a metronome set to 100 beats per minute (IOI of 600ms). Markers were piano tones played legato. The soft and loud events were respectively a single tone and a chord (constituted of between 4 and 6 tones). The effect was of approximately 45ms (so that IOIs of type a were for example adjusted at 580ms and IOIs of type b and c at 625ms). I would appreciate very much any insights on this question, Amandine Penel ############################################################### Amandine Penel Laboratoire de Psychologie Experimentale 28, rue Serpente 75006 Paris - France Tel: 33-1-40519865.
