        Last night, Wisconsin Public Television aired a NOVA documentary
about the woes of the Russian space station MIR.  During a power failure,
virtually everything on the station had to be shut down.  The interesting
thing is that several astronauts recalled vividly the peculiar auditory
sensations that occurred under this condition.  One astronaut described the
sensation as the "deafening sound of silence" and also added that his ears
"hurt."
