Sometimes the word "comity" is used to describe the style with which successful senators deal with members of the other party, with whom they have all manner of fundamental disagreements...but with whom they must interact effectively to solve a problem. It is a pleasure that politics and science are different in many ways, however the social demands of the two are not one of them.
