I am interested in any information about this method:
My goal is to build a physical counterpart to JM Grey's
perceptual timbral space. This kind of analysis method
could be the optimal analysis method for such a task.

I think that many people in the auditory mailing list
(auditory(at)vm1.mcgill.ca) are interested in such methods.
