Subject: Uwe Baumann: Masking Question From: "Dan Ellis" <dpwe(at)media.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 12 Nov 1994 23:42:04 -0500Dear List - I enclose a query that I am re-re-forwarding on behalf of Uwe Baumann, who was forwarding it on behalf of his colleague Stefan Wartini. I hope, after all this forwarding, someone will be able to help! DAn Ellis. -------- Forwarded Message From: Uwe Baumann <Uwe.Baumann(at)mmk.e-technik.tu-muenchen.de> Date: Mon, 7 Nov 94 07:54:09 +0100 To: dpwe(at)media.mit.edu [...] Dear colleagues, here comes a question from a colleague of mine who is searching for hints on literature about s special kind of masking experiments. Uwe Baumann >begin of included message I'm looking for psychoacustic data concerning masking of sinusoidal testtones by single sinusoids or harmonic complex maskers. I know there's a lot of papers on this topic, but only very few describe data of experiments using testtones and maskers of the SAME duration. All I found are the following papers: - - ------------------------------------------------------------ D.~M. Green.: Masking with continuous and pulsed sinusoids. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 46(4):939--946, 1969 S.~P. Bacon and B.~C.~J. Moore.: Temporal effects in simultaneous pure-tone masking: effects of signal frequency, masker/signal frequency ratio, and masker level. Hearing Research, 23:257--266, 1986. B.~Leshowitz and E.~Cudahy.: Masking patterns for continuous and gated sinusoids. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 58(1):235--242, 1975. - - ------------------------------------------------------------ All the other papers I found use different durations of masker and testsignal like: - - ------------------------------------------------------------- E.~Zwicker and H.~Fastl.: On the development of the critical band. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 52(2):699--702, 1972. B.~Leshowitz and E.~Cudahy.: Masking with continuous and gated sinusoids. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 51(6):1921--1929, 1972. H.~Fastl.: Temporal masking effects {III}: Pure tone masker. Acustica, 43(5):282--294, 1979. N.~Viemeister.: Adaptation of masking. In "Psychophysical, physiological and behavioral studies in hearing", pages 190--199. Delft University Press, 1980. S.~Bacon and N.~Viemeister.:The temporal course of simultaneous tone-on-tone masking. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 78(4):1231--1235, 1985. S.~Bacon and N.~Viemeister.: Simultaneous masking by gated and continuous sinusoidal maskers. J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 78(4):1220--1230, 1985. - - ------------------------------------------------------------ Does anybody know any other papers, that could help me ? I'm especially looking for data for 1kHz maskers with 60~dB and 80~dB SPL with various testtone-frequencies and durations of both above 200ms. Thanks a lot in advance !!!
