Dear Auditory List Members, - I have received some queries about scheduling of sessions for the upcoming ASA meeting in Ottawa May 17-21. Those who submitted abstracts for the meeting should be receiving official notification re: date/day/time etc. directly from the Chair of the Meeting any day now. Additional information that may be of interest follows: _______________________________________________________________ A total of 49 abstracts were submitted for the special sessions on Auditory grouping. Originally, a single special session on this topic was proposed. Later, this was expanded to two: One on "Modulation and auditory grouping", and another on "Auditory organization in music and speech". Due to the large volume of abstracts submitted, we now have FIVE special sub-sessions ! Two of these will focus on modulation as a grouping cue, and the other three on organizational factors operative in music and speech perception. The sessions are inter-leaved over the course of the Conference. The schedule and titles are: Tues May 18 1:30 - 4:45 p.m: Aud. Org. in Mus. and Sp. I: Theory, phenomena and models Wed May 19 8:30 a.m - noon: Mod. and Aud. Gr. I Wed May 19 1:00 - 3:35 p.m: Mod. and Aud. Gr. II Thurs May 20 8:30 - 11:50 a.m: Aud. Org. in Mus. and Sp. II: Melody and rhythm Fri May 21 8:30 a.m - 12:05 p.m: Aud. Org. in Mus. and Sp. III: Tonality, pitch, timbre and voices Hope this information is useful in making travel arrangements. THANKS TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE AUDITORY LIST FOR YOUR INTEREST AND PARTICIPATION IN THESE SPECIAL SESSIONS. Sincerely, Punita Singh
