Dear List,
as some of you may know, I am keenly interested in further exploring the potential of temporal coding through cochlear implants, which I happen to believe to be considerable. Researchers who are more skeptical than me about the potential for temporal coding sometimes refer to an effort by Cochlear (?) to develop a "FAST" strategy that was meant to incorporate temporal coding, but which, apparently, was abandoned (?) due to a lack of success. The thing is, no-one who mentions FAST to me has ever been able to point me to any peer reviewed literature or technical documents or anything tangible really that could explain to me what exactly "FAST" is (was?), how it was meant to work, how it has been tested, and what the outcomes where. Can any of you share some solid literature on this mysterious topic, or is "FAST" a mythical beast about which there is much lore and hearsay but little or no "reference grade" scientific documentation?
Many thanks in advance to the hive mind, warm regards, and a happy 2025 and year of the snake.
As ever,
Jan
