The School of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2025 specializing in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Communication Science and Disorders (CSD). We seek a scholar with a record of research productivity in the innovative integration of AI technologies to enhance clinical practice, teaching, and research in CSD. This is a full-time, tenure-track position, with a 9-month appointment; academic year requirements include teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, research and service.
Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Development of AI tools for voice recognition technology that improves accessibility for individuals with speech disorders, including stuttering and dysarthria.
- Creation of learning algorithms that personalize treatment for individuals with communication disorders
- Improving access to speech-to-text and related technologies.
- Leveraging AI for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and enhancing diagnostic accuracy, treatment solutions, and outcomes in hearing-related technologies.
- Advancing technology-based tools for monitoring speech production (e.g., consonant accuracy, speech rate) and language processing to support individuals with disabilities.
- Research in AI for large-scale speech analytics, brain-computer interfaces, and the use of virtual/augmented reality in education and healthcare.
Qualifications
Qualifications include: (a) earned doctorate in communication sciences and disorders or related areas, and (b) experience in teaching and research.
