[AUDITORY] Ph.D. position at the University of Texas

Ph.D. (hearing sciences or audiology) at The University of Texas at Austin

My laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin has openings for fully funded Ph.D. positions for Fall 2025 (https://slhs.utexas.edu/research/ut-care-lab/team)

The area of work is very broad: human hearing and hearing loss, focusing on signal processing in the human ear. Examples (not an exhaustive list): auditory neural systems, cochlear mechanics, pediatric audiology, auditory signal processing, biomedical signals, machine learning applications in hearing-in-noise, etc.

Candidates with audiology or hearing sciences backgrounds can apply, and students with biomedical or electrical engineering backgrounds interested in signal processing, time-frequency analysis, etc., are especially encouraged to apply. Undergraduate students with exceptional qualifications are also welcome to apply.

Recent sample publications to show the flavor of diverse work are listed below:

Mishra SK & Moore DR (2023). Auditory deprivation during development alters efferent neural feedback and perception, Journal of Neuroscience, 43, 4642-4649.

Balan JR, Rodrigo H, Saxena U & Mishra SK (2023). Explainable machine learning reveals the relationship between hearing thresholds and speech-in-noise recognition in listeners with normal audiograms. The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 154, 2278- 2288.

Mishra SK, et al (2022). Hearing impairment in the extended high frequencies in children despite clinically normal hearing. Ear & Hearing, 43(6):1653-1660.
