[AUDITORY] PhD scholarship in 3D Audio Technologies - Imperial and Huaweii

Dear Colleagues,

We are looking for PhD candidates in 3D Audio Technologies within a collaboration between the Audio Experience Design group at Imperial College London and Huawei’s Munich Research Center.

The Audio Experience Design group includes researchers and projects in areas related with both the physical and the perceptual natures of audio, with particular focus on sonic interaction and user experience, as well as on real-life applications. Our main areas of research are:
  • Spatial hearing and binaural audio
  • Hearing science and hearing devices
  • Autonomous ecoacoustic monitoring
Huawei's Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of Huawei products. The Audiovisual Technology Lab in Huawei’s Munich Research Center develops signal processing and machine learning solutions applied to audio, music and speech with the goal to enrich the audio experiences for millions of customers.

The activities specifically associated with this post are to:
  • Design and develop immersive audio experiments, specifically on spatial hearing perception, HRTF evaluation and selection, and speech perception within AR/VR environments
  • Design and develop immersive audio-visual tools and applications, both headphones and loudspeaker-based, using off-the-shelf and custom equipment
  • Integrate machine learning techniques and approaches to immersive audio tools and applications, e.g. inferring room acoustics from spatially captured audiovisual data in an AR/VR context
  • Perform data analysis on behavioural measurements using advanced statistical techniques (electrophysiological and pupillometry measurements might be employed as well)
  • Publish the research outputs in national and international conferences and high-impact journals
The successful candidate will enrol as PhD student at Imperial College London and as a working student at Huawei in Munich, where they will be spending the majority of their time.

Please contact l.picinali@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx if interested, sending your CV and a brief cover letter.

Best
