Dear Esra, Thanks for listing out paper on manual motor reaction (Vroegh et al., 2021). Maybe it is also worth looking into the original paper of absorption as component of flow (in addition to
fluency) from Engeser & Rheinsberg (2008), including a 10-item short-scale of flow. However, for simplicity, we often use the one-item assessment of absorption (“I was entirely involved in the music/I was completely absorbed in the music” by a 5 or 7pt Likert-scale
of agreement (Lange et al., 2017; Lange & Fink, 2023). Best, Elke Engeser, S., & Rheinberg, F. (2008). Flow, performance and moderators of challenge-skill balance.

Hello Esra, I would recommend checking out work by Thijs Vroegh, for example, https://psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/2019-58627-009.html or https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1053810021000143#t0010 Dana Swarbrick (she/her) PhD RITMO, Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm, Time, and Motion Department of Musicology, University of Oslo From: AUDITORY - Research in Auditory Perception <AUDITORY@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> on behalf of esra mungan <esra.mungan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> dear list, this is a question to those of you who do research on music and emotion. I
have noticed that there are a couple of scales that look into “absorption”, say when listening to music or poetry or when engaging with nature etc. are there
any of those scales or subscales you would particularly recommend? the tellegen & atkinson (1974) scale seems to be a widely used one. but there are other ones, too (e.g., glisky et al., 1991). in order to use them we would also need their scoring schemes.
any help will be highly appreciated. best, esra Esra Mungan, PhD Associate Professor Psychological Science MA Advisor Departmental Exchange
