Dear List, We propose the following PhD position, please feel free to share within your network, and encourage potential candidates to reach out if they want to chat informally about the position & its
practicalities. PhD Position: Contribution to the understanding of noise sensitivity and its underlying mechanisms Noise sensitivity is a personal predisposition accounting for an individual’s reaction to noise. It plays a considerable role in capturing individual differences in large-scale public-health studies on noise annoyance.
In the research literature, however, there is debate as to how noise sensitivity should be conceptualized or measured.
A three-year research project funded by the Fondation pour l’Audition (grant FPA RD-2022-6) aims to investigate this question in-depth by reviewing the pertinent literature, setting up, running and analyzing laboratory
experiments as well as conducting surveys. The relevance of this work is the conceptual clarification of the concept and the designation of a reliable measure of noise sensitivity with future applications in public health surveys. The PhD work will be carried out under the supervision of C. Marquis-Favre, Senior Researcher at ENTPE (France), Prof. Karin Zimmer at the University of Vechta (Germany), and Prof. Wolfgang Ellermeier at the Technical
University of Darmstadt (Germany). The candidate is expected to participate in the research of all steps of the project, as well as in publication and communication activities.
Job location: at ENTPE (École Nationale des Travaux Publics de l’État, member of the University of Lyon), Vaulx-en-Velin in the Greater Lyon area (France) Salary will be consistent with the updated standards for this position at ENTPE. The appointment period will be for 3 years (starting end of 2022/beginning of 2023). The candidate is expected to hold a Master’s degree in Psychology, Acoustics or any discipline linked to the project. Previous experiences in psychoacoustics, psychological research methods, physiological measurement
and statistical analyses are particularly appreciated, as well as good programming skills (Matlab). Furthermore, candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills in English. The application will include the following documents: - Detailed CV - Grade transcripts of the Master course of studies - Application letter, detailing the applicant’s motivation and prospective contribution to the project - A recommendation letter by a former university teacher or work supervisor Send the full application in one file by e-mail to: catherine.marquisfavre@xxxxxxxx ellermeier@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx karin.zimmer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Deadline for application is September 18, 2022
