[AUDITORY] PhD position machine learning and speech enhancement

The Acoustics Division at the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics, University of Oldenburg, Germany, seeks as soon as possible a motivated

PhD student (m/f/d, 75% of full time TV-L 13 position, 3 years)
in the field of machine learning and speech enhancement

The research focus of this project is developing methods for speaker separation and enhancement in complex acoustical scenes using machine learning approaches and techniques from the field of computational auditory scene analysis.

The project is funded by the DFG collaborative research centre CRC 1330 Hearing Acoustics. The CRC 1330 Hearing Acoustics aims for a better understanding of human acoustic communication and is a long-term collaboration of researchers from Oldenburg, Aachen and Munich. For more information about the project see https://uol.de/en/sfb-1330-hearing-acoustics/section-b-algorithms/b2-auditory-scene-analysis.

Applicants for the position must have a completed scientific university degree (Master or Diploma (Uni)) in Hearing Technology & Audiology, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline. In addition, applicants should have solid knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

  • Speech and audio signal processing.
  • Machine learning techniques for audio processing.
  • Computational auditory scene analysis.

Candidates are expected to publish in peer reviewed international journals and to have an interest in interdisciplinary work. In addition, candidates are expected to have experience with scientific tools and programming languages such as MATLAB, and to be proficient in English both in spoken word and in writing.

The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
