Director of Clinical Education, AuD Program (Faculty) - (3202139)

About Us:

The MGH Institute of Health Professions is accepting applications for a Director of Clinical Education in our new Doctoral of Audiology (AuD) program scheduled to begin in summer 2023. The AuD program will be a collaboration between the MGH Institute of Health Professions and Mass Eye and Ear Institute in Boston. The program joins an interprofessional team of highly ranked programs within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS). These include master’s and doctoral programs in Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Genetic Counseling, and Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD). We are seeking an innovative and dynamic individual to lead the clinical education arm of the AuD curriculum.

Located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, the MGH Institute is an autonomous graduate school affiliated with Mass General Brigham, which includes the Massachusetts General Hospital, Mass Eye and Ear, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, as well as a physician’s network, community health centers, and other health care entities. These affiliations offer unparalleled opportunities for faculty and students to learn and work alongside experienced practitioners in a variety of hospital, clinical, and community settings. Additionally, MGH Institute of Health Professions is committed to anti-racism and bringing together all members of the IHP community to address systemic racial injustice as well as oppression more broadly. The Institute seeks to build an inviting and inclusive campus environment that supports the diverse students and communities the school serves.

Summary:

Reporting directly to the AuD Program Director, the Director of Clinical Education will be responsible for developing and maintaining a high-quality AuD clinical curriculum to be administered in a new, state-of-the-art, MGH satellite clinic within the Sanders Impact Practice Center on the Institute of Health Professions campus. The Director of Clinical Education will function in an independent manner with responsibility for making day-to-day administrative and clinical education decisions. This position represents a unique opportunity for a master clinician to support the Institute’s goals of preparing health professionals by mentoring student clinicians, providing audiological services to our diverse communities, facilitating clinical partnerships within the local medical community, and contributing to a culture of inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Clinical Education will be responsible for developing and coordinating the clinical training curriculum in the new Doctor of Audiology program. Academic responsibilities include teaching, scholarly activity, and service to the Institute. Administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of the daily operations of the Audiology clinic within the multi-disciplinary Sanders Impact Practice Center; organization and implementation of student clinical education opportunities; monitoring supervising student progress including documentation, staffing, and other meetings; ensuring compliance with institute and state policies and procedures as well as ASHA CFCC and CAA requirements; overseeing HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, ADA, and CDC compliance, assisting with student and faculty recruitment; contributing to curriculum development and evaluation; remaining current in the field through professional development opportunities including conferences, research, or other scholarly activities; and establishing and maintaining affiliations with local clinical partners for the purpose of student training.

Qualifications:

Eligible applicants will have an AuD or AuD/PhD, hold ASHA certification as an audiologist, and have or be eligible for Massachusetts state licensure as an audiologist. Also required, at least 5 years of experience as an educator/mentor in a CAA-certified academic program in audiology.

Evidence of academic leadership and effective collaboration with clinical partners is highly desirable. To ensure quality learning experiences for students, the applicant should have strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as a demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Contribution to clinical research or community service is also desirable, but not required.

This position is a 12-month appointment beginning January 2023, with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
