For those who are attending ASA meeting in Seattle, please consider attending this timely workshop (no need to register fo this event, it’s opened to all who are already registered for the ASA meeting). It’s open to trainees as well as faculty (i.e., helping you on writing as well as reading diversity statements). WORKSHOP ON WRITING A DIVERSITY STATEMENT Many job applicants are now asked to submit a diversity statement along with other materials, but because these statements are relatively new, many applicants are unsure about the expectations. Further, employers must learn how to evaluate these statements and effectively use them in the hiring process. For early career and established acousticians alike, diversity statements can be excellent tools for self-reflection, allowing you to consider your equity and inclusion practices for all aspects of your work including research, mentorship, outreach, teaching, and service. The workshop will provide strategies for developing a diversity statement as well as tools for evaluating them. There will be breakout groups for those at different phases of the writing process and for those looking to incorporate them into their hiring practices. The workshop will be facilitated by Cynthia del Rosario, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Sovereignty (IDEAS) Advisor, Information School and Dr. Tam'ra-Kay Francis, Department of Chemistry, both from the University of Washington. Contact Tessa Bent tbent@xxxxxx or Tyrone Porter tmp6@xxxxxxxxxx with questions. This event is co-sponsored by the Member Engagement Committee and the Committee to Improve Racial Diversity and Inclusivity. The workshop will be held from 10 AM – 12 noon on Tuesday, November 30 in Columbia B. ====================================== Adrian KC Lee, ScD Professor and Chair Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences University of Washington, Box 357988 Seattle, WA 98195-7988 Phone: (206) 616-0102; Fax: (206) 221-6472 Email: akclee@xxxxxx Web: www.akclee.com |
