Afterwards, Ph.D. candidates work on a dissertation topic of their own design in close collaboration with a faculty advisory team tailored to the student’s interests. The program encourages diverse research methodologies, including practice-based approaches.
Ongoing faculty research areas include: data sonification, virtual reality music systems, telematic performance, new interfaces for musical _expression_, accessible music interfaces, antiracist music theories and pedagogies, digital fabrication for acoustics, technical ear training and critical listening, and poetic interactions of music, image, sound, and story.
Applications for the Ph.D. are due by December 10. More information and detailed application instructions are available on the program page. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., music, music technology, engineering, or computer science) and a Master’s Degree in music technology (or similar) prior to entering the Ph.D. program. Students currently in the final year of a Master’s degree may apply for admission contingent upon successful completion of their degree. Those interested in a Master’s program are invited to apply to the M.A. in Media Arts.
Prospective students are invited to a Live Zoom Info Session and Q&A on Friday October 29 at 1:00pm EDT. Both the Ph.D. and M.A. programs will be covered. Pre-registration is required here: https://forms.gle/zyGgtNz4Y2FAWUhf9/.
