[AUDITORY] Mailing list for sound in healthcare

Good morning all,

As the result of some discussion which took place on the auditory list earlier in the year, we realised that there was a few researchers who had a common interest in sound and acoustics in medical contexts.

Although there is often a lot of overlap with the aims of this list, we have started a separate list, with a nice (I think) acronym - HAVENS (HealthcAre enVironmENt Soundscapes).

I am posting here in case there is anyone else doing research into this more specific area, where there are sometimes unique challenges (e.g. patient confidentiality when making recordings) and inviting anyone with an interest to join. We already hosted one small virtual kick-off seminar at the start of the summer, which has already produced fruitful collaborations. Hopefully, we will host more in future.

• Auralization / virtual modulation of acoustic spaces
• Auditory alarms design for clinical contexts

• Contextual inquiries in Intensive Care Units and Operating Rooms for better soundscapes
• Effects of sound on patient outcomes
• Hearing models and vulnerable listeners
