[AUDITORY] Post doctoral position, Kresge Hearing Research Institute, U Michigan

The Shore Lab at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to investigate how neural circuits in the auditory system perform computations essential for hearing in normal and pathological systems. In particular, this NIH-funded project aims to understand how specific cochlear nucleus circuits, including olivocochlear projections, are altered after cochlear synaptopathy.  Knowledge about these circuits will assist our understanding of how signals are extracted from background noise and how these are degraded after cochlear synaptopathy or ‘hidden hearing loss’.  Techniques used include in vivo, multichannel single-unit electrophysiology and optogenetics to study network architecture and immunocytochemistry to study neurochemistry.

Prior experience with in electrophysiology, optogenetics, and quantitative assessment (MATLAB, python…etc) is desired, but candidates with other relevant experience and a strong interest in the role of neural circuits in sensory perception will be considered.

The Shore Lab is an established member of the Kresge Hearing Research Institute (KHRI), University of Michigan Medical School. KHRI and the neuroscience community at the U-M provide a highly supportive and diverse research environment and excellent career development opportunities for postdoctoral fellows.
