(1) NIDCD-supported project on Dimension-based auditory attention
This position will besupported by a new NIH-supported research project, Dimension-based auditory attention.The projectweds the joint expertise of Drs. Lori HoltandBarbara Shinn-Cunningham (Carnegie Mellon University) and Drs. Frederic Dick and Adam Tierney (Birkbeck College, University of London) to advance our understanding ofhow human adults selectively attend to specific dimensions of complex sound.

(2) Montgomery Research Foundation project on acquired salience in auditory attention
This position will besupported by the Jeff and Valerie Montgomery Research Foundation to wed the joint expertise of Drs. Barbara Shinn-Cunningham, Lori Holt and Richard Randall(Carnegie Mellon University) to advance our understanding ofhow specific dimensions of complex soundacquire salience in capturing attention. The long-term goal of this collaborative, inter-disciplinary research program is to arrive at an understanding of the behavioral and brain bases of auditory attention and how auditory attention may be dysregulated in listeners with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and to explore whether, and how, music may alleviate PTSD symptoms.
