[AUDITORY] Open PostDoc position in quantification of Quality-of-Experience of Sound Zone systems

Hi All

Please note that the following 3 year postDoc position is now open for applications.

Join us to quantify Quality of Experience for our Interactive Sound Zones for Better Living (ISOBEL) project. Spend the next 36 months exploring your field of expertise putting theory into action while becoming part of a social team.

Grab this opportunity to play a vital role in a project that will innovate the sound experience in domestic homes as well as make a real difference in hospital environments.

Meet ISOBEL
The ISOBEL research project is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and is a collaboration between Aalborg University, Bang & Olufsen, SoundFocus and WaveCare.

Our goal is to enable the control of reproduced sound in domestic and health care environments. More specifically our approach is to reproduce specific audio content (e.g. music) in particular spatial regions of a room, referred to as sound zones.

The sound zones are dynamic and interactive and created using multiple synchronized wireless loudspeakers. The sound field is measured using microphones at given positions in the room and extrapolated to the regions of interest before being used for online adaptation of the control algorithm.

Your mission
As part of the Acoustics & Research team, you will join our open office space in Struer starting 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Here, you will work independently as the expert within your field while staying in close contact and sharing your research with the rest of the team.

More specifically, your main task will be to quantify Quality of Experience (QoE) for users of our Sound Zone systems. The project involves defining QoE for the various user cases. This includes identifying and quantifying both objective measures and subjective attributes of user performance. The final goal is to establish QoE models for the studied use cases.

In short, you will:

  • Quantify Quality of Experience
  • Define milestones, tasks and projects in cooperation with team members
  • Read publications and study new developments and theories
  • Write publications
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with the rest of the team, sharing knowledge and discussing research

Your network
You can look forward to joining a very social department that is responsible for acoustic research, electro acoustics, digital signal processing, machine learning and interaction as well as acoustical principles for our products. You will be a full member of the team on equal footing with the rest of your 28 colleagues in Struer.

As a team, we expect a lot from each other, but we also take great pride in helping each other out and providing professional feedback as well as sharing knowledge.

Throughout the ISOBEL project, you will also have the opportunity to work together with the other partners at our newly established laboratory facilities at Aalborg University.

What you bring:

  • A PhD degree or similar scientific qualifications
  • A strong publication record
  • Preferably, experience with sensory analysis of sound or food – likewise, experience working with sound quality is a plus
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in English in both speech and writing
  • Lastly, it is important that you are a solid team player who can work independently while eagerly sharing information with your team and listening to their input.
