[AUDITORY] Open PhD positions at Audio Communication Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany

The Audio Communications Group at University of Hannover has two open positions for PhD researchers.

1.      -----------------------------

Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100%)

starting at the next possible date. The position is initially limited to three years and includes the opportunity of graduating with a doctoral degree. 
It is planned to be funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Innovative Training Networks grant which is an international joint research training and 
doctoral program implemented by European partnerships and therefore involves a stay at a partner organization for several month. 
The research conducted will be part of the project Virtual Reality Audio for Cyber Environments (VRACE) (https://vrace-etn.eu/) Position 11

Scope of work:

·        Signal processing for virtual acoustics,

·        Acoustical measurements and simulations,

·        Listening experiments and their evaluation.

Eligibility criteria due to funding:

·        Lived in Germany for maximum 1 year in total during the last 3 years,

·        Not enrolled in a doctoral program so far,

·        Less than 4 years full-time equivalent of research experience since graduation.

Qualifications:

You are very motivated, self-initiated and have successfully completed your studies with a master university degree in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics. You are expected to have profound knowledge in signal processing for audio and acoustics as well as to have experience in developing software components in MATLAB or C/C++. Good communication skills in English and preferable German language, both oral and written, are furthermore desired.

starting at November 1st, 2019. The position is initially limited to three years and includes the opportunity of graduating with a doctoral degree. The research to be conducted is part of the project „‘Richard Wagner 3.0: Bayreuth für alle' - Immersive Klangumgebungen und ihr Potenzial für das Musik-Erleben und die kulturelle Teilhabe" which is funded by the Ministry for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony.

Scope of work

·       Development, configuration, control and measurement based verification of different multichannel loudspeaker setups in the Immersive Media Lab of the Institut für Kommunikationstechnik at the Leibniz University Hannover

·       Research on upmix strategies and improvement of the algorithms involved with respect to the use case

·       Listening experiments and their evaluation as well as room acoustical measurements and metadata generation

Qualifications

You are very motivated, self-initiated and have successfully completed your studies with a master university degree in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics. You are expected to have profound knowledge in signal processing for audio and acoustics as well as to have experience in developing software components in MATLAB or C/C++. Good communication skills in German and English language, both oral and written, are furthermore desired.

In addition, we expect you to have

·       profound knowledge in audio reproduction techniques and current trends in immersive sound scene generation,

·       advanced skills in virtual acoustics, room acoustics and signal processing,

·       interest in Virtual/Mixed Reality.
