The Music Lab (Dept of Psychology, Harvard) is recruiting one visiting graduate student to lead projects concerning the use of music, speech, and sound to regulate infant emotion, affect, and temperament. Responsibilities will include working with the PI (Dr Samuel Mehr), research staff, and undergraduates to design and carry out experiments; creating stimuli with video and audio editing tools; programming experiments in PsychoPy, jsPsych, or similar software; collecting data from infants and parents; managing and analyzing data; and co-authoring manuscripts reporting the findings of the research (including first authorship, depending on contribution).

The Music Lab is a member of the Lab for Developmental Studies group at Harvard and has access to a large population of infants from the greater Boston area, ample resources to support the visiting graduate student's work, including 4K video capture, physiological monitoring equipment, and infrastructure for massive online data collection. Applicants can learn about our research at themusiclab.org.

Ideal candidates are current doctoral-level (PhD or otherwise) students in developmental psychology, education, or music who have the flexibility to take on a semester-long or a year-long position as part of their current program. The start date is flexible but ideally will be before the end of 2019. Compensation is flexible and will be determined with consideration of the candidate's current funding package (e.g., we may offer a buyout for a teaching assistantship). Travel funding may also be available to assist with temporary relocation and/or for conference presentations of the research. Visa sponsorship is not available, unfortunately. This is an NIH-funded position and renewal past the first year may be possible. Candidates are encouraged to discuss the possibility of applying with their current advisor before submitting an application, as appropriate.
