Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Speech,
Language, and Hearing Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University.
The position will be available July 1, 2019. We seek an internationally recognized researcher with a
history of skillful interdisciplinary leadership and an inspiring vision for the Department. The
successful candidate will serve as advocate for the Department to the College, University, and larger
community. The successful candidate will be an academic leader and scholar with a commitment to the research,
clinical, and teaching missions of the Department. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent
degree, have scholarly credentials commensurate with the rank of Tenured Full Professor in the
Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and have expertise in one of the
department’s subject areas and have a program of publication in this field. Furthermore, the
candidate must be able to contribute to the research portfolio of the department. Desirable attributes
include a strong record of published research and external funding as well as prior experience in
academic and clinical program administration and program development. The successful candidate
must also value and promote diversity. The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is a diverse and collegial department
with 22 research/tenure track faculty and 15 clinical faculty members. Research areas represented in
the Department include: Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Linguistics, Neuroscience, and
Speech & Hearing Sciences. The Department houses a thriving interdisciplinary community,
including ongoing collaborations with other departments (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Biological
Sciences, Psychological Sciences) and programs/centers (e.g., Linguistics, Institute for Integrative
Neuroscience, Center on Aging and the Life Course, Purdue Autism Cluster, Center for Research on
Brain, Behavior, and NeuroRehabilitation, and Ray W. Herrick Acoustic Laboratories). Faculty lead
two interdisciplinary NIH training grants in Communication Disorders and in Auditory
Neuroscience. The Department has accredited and highly ranked clinical programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. It awards Bachelors, Masters, Au.D., and Ph.D. degrees. Purdue University’s Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is committed to
