GENERAL SUMMARY
This person will lead the Audiology Research Department on a variety of short- and long-term research projects in support of NAL’s Mission, Strategic Objectives and Competencies. This person will help set the direction for audiology research with a focus on adult hearing impairment and will work with other department heads to plan and execute collaborative work between Audiology Research and other departments in NAL. This person will also coordinate research collaborations into adult hearing loss with other academic and industry organisations. The person in this role will be responsible for the development of new research initiatives into adult hearing loss and participate in research projects across all areas within NAL.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage Audiology Research staff
1.1  Prioritize workload.
1.2  Manage priorities and schedules.
1.3  Provide guidance to staff on the performance of their responsibilities.
1.4  Ensure employees are meeting expectations as project team members.
1.5  Interview and recommend the hire of new employees.
1.6  Develop and maintain a culture of collaboration and innovation within NAL.
2. Develop and facilitate Audiology Research’s contributions to projects.
2.1  Participate in strategic planning.
2.2  Identify opportunities for Audiology Research to contribute to NAL’s strategic objectives.
2.3  Provide guidance to the Audiology Research members on initiating, planning, executing and terminating projects.
2.4  Provide guidance to Audiology Research members on projects to ensure that objectives are met, assist in project problem solving, and ensure that projects comply with the NAL project processes.
2.5  Guide the development of new research ideas.
3. Lead the adult hearing loss research portfolio
3.1  Develop the strategy for adult hearing loss projects.
3.2  Ensure that active projects achieve NAL’s strategic objectives.
3.3  Guide project teams on the planning and execution of projects focused on adult hearing loss.
3.4  Facilitate pilot projects and early discovery using NAL approaches such as design thinking.
4. Develop and manage processes and procedures for the Audiology Research Department.
4.1  Provide guidance to Audiology Research members on execution of their roles within the section and within projects.
4.2  Work with NAL management to ensure successful collaboration and working relationships between sections.
5. Develop and manager adult hearing loss research collaborations with external organisations.
5.1  Develop and maintain relationships within the audiology research community that are consistent with NAL’s goals.
5.2  Maintain audiological expertise on new developments relevant to NAL’s objectives and develop opportunities for integrating new audiological ideas into NAL.
5.3  Develop relationships with external organizations around audiology research and work with those organisations on collaborative or sponsored projects.
5.4  Promote NAL and build relationships through high-quality publications of peer-reviewed journals, trade journals, and presentations at relevant conferences.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
·     Ph.D. in Audiology with a research focus on adult hearing impairment.
Experience:
·     extensive experience conducting audiology research experiments
·     experience directing audiologists
·     expertise in speech tests and psychoacoustics
Knowledge
·       expertise in audiological diagnostics and outcome measures
·       knowledge of audiological instrumentation
·       an understanding of hearing aid technology and fitting systems
·       significant knowledge of the audiology research literature
·       experience with manager-level decision making
·       excellent written and verbal communication skills
