[AUDITORY] Two PhD positions in in the BEAR project, deadline June 14, 2018

Dear colleagues,

Two fully funded PhD stipends are open for application at Aalborg University as part of the BEAR project.

1) Patient-driven diagnostics and hearing-aid fitting,

Hearing-care practitioners have only limited time for a hearing-aid fitting, and often most of the powerful features of modern hearing aids are not or only to a very limited extent fitted to the individual needs of the hearing impaired. A patient-driven process may also provide an advantage to users that may benefit from controlling progress themselves, but the user control may also result in non-optimal adaptation to the aided situation.

The present project will investigate the pros and cons of a patient-driven process, utilizing a subset of diagnostics and hearing aids, which offer solutions for user control.

2) Characterization of and alleviation for hearing-aid users with low compensation benefit

The topic of the position relate to the situation of individuals, who experience hearing problems, but have low compensation benefit from regular hearing-aids.
It is the aim of the post doc project to explore options for alleviation of these patients’ hearing problems, and to obtain more knowledge about the characteristics of these patient populations. The work will include the consideration of electrophysiological measurements and/or psychoacoustic procedures, which are not currently used in the typical clinical situation. The work will also include proposals for supplementary profiling and alleviation strategies.

Widex, GN Resound, Oticon, DELTA a part of Force, the University of Southern Denmark, the Danish Technical University, and the University Hospitals in Odense, Aalborg and Copenhagen).
