Dear Colleagues,
the University of Malaga and Imperial College London are very proud to announce the official release of the 3D Tune-In (3DTI) Toolkit. The 3DTI Toolkit is a standard C++ library for binaural audio spatialisation (a version for loudspeaker-based spatialisation also exist) and hearing loss/hearing aid emulation, and has been created within the EU-funded 3D Tune-In project (http://3d-tune-in.eu/) The binaural audio algorithm integrates several functionalities, such as:
The hearing loss simulator includes a multi-band dynamic range compressor/expander, and an automatic configurator of hearing loss emulation from the user-inputted audiogram. In addition, a frequency smearing algorithm, based on the Baer and Moore model, and a temporal distortion (jitter) algorithm are also included. The hearing aid simulator includes a dynamic equaliser, with an automatic configurator which outputs the various amplification curves from the user's audiogram. It also include a band-pass and re-quantisation process, in order to simulate the specific acoustic and AD/DA conversion features of a given hearing aid, and a directional algorithm, which can be set continuously between directional and omni-directional for each ear independently. More information about the 3DTI Toolkit features and how to use them can be found in the installers zip file. The 3DTI Toolkit is available open source (GPLv3 license - royalty-free use for non-commercial use) from the project's public repository: https://github.com/3DTune-In/3dti_AudioToolkit The test applications for various platforms (Mac, Windows and Linux) are also available, and allow to access all the functionalities of the 3DTI Toolkit from a simple interface. The test application can be controlled remotely using Open Sound Control (OSC), and can therefore be easily integrated in existing VR systems. The various versions of the 3DTI Toolkit test applications can be downloaded from the following links: The 3DTI Toolkit is also going to be available as Unity and _javascript_ wrappers, allowing integration within the Unity 3D environment (as a simple asset) and on web-based platforms. An example of the web-based implementation of the Toolkit can be found here - http://online-toolkit.3d-tune-in.eu/. If you are interested in using those, please contact Arcadio Reyes-Lecuona (areyes@xxxxxx) and/or Lorenzo Picinali (l.picinali@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx). The 3D Tune-In project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 644051 - a short video has been created to describe the project, its goals and its outputs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_FsF28bsmw&t=72s Please feel free circulate to students and colleagues!
