[AUDITORY] Postdoc position in Cognitive Neuroscience of Hearing

We are hiring a new post-doctoral associate at the Brain and Mind Institute, University of Western Ontario, Canada.

A 2-year postdoctoral position (renewable for a 3rd year) is available in the Cognitive Neuroscience of Communication and Hearing (CoNCH) laboratory of Ingrid Johnsrude (University of Western Ontario).

The successful applicant will use behavioral/psychophysical methods and electrophysiological methods (EEG) and/or functional neuroimaging (fMRI) in young and older listeners to study how sound, particularly (but not exclusively) speech, is processed by the brain, and the relationship between peripheral and central neural activity.

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., psychology, hearing science, neuroscience, physiology, engineering, computer science, etc.), excellent quantitative and computer skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.

The position is in the Brain and Mind Institute at Western, which is a vibrant and collaborative group including 36 core faculty, 170 core trainees, and 26 associate faculty. It is one of North America’s foremost cognitive neuroscience groups, with multiple state-of-the-art electroencephalography recording systems, both 3T and 7T MRI systems, TMS, and cutting-edge facilities for other types of psychophysical, electrophysiological and cognitive assessment. Depending on interest, close involvement with the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Western, which houses the National Centre for Audiology and 24 principal investigators (PIs) in Audiology and Speech Pathology and their trainees, is also possible.

With annual research funding in excess of $240 million, and an international reputation for success, Western ranks as one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities (www.uwo.ca). This position is available from Jan 2018 (or after), with funding from the Canadian Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and Western University. Salary is competitive and will depend upon qualifications and experience. A range of benefits is available depending on length of appointment.

Depending on prior experience, annual salary will be at least $45,000–$50,000 CAD. Postdoctoral Associates are provided with a health care spending account.
